The report explores the realities of operating BESS while scaling, including challenges faced, where time and effort are spent, how data and tools are used in practice, and how operators experience supplier relationships once systems are live.

Main Findings

Three themes stand out:

• Deployment is scaling faster than operational models: 59% say root-cause analysis and incident investigation requires significant effort or time.
• Supplier accountability is a mixed picture across the value chain: 48% of asset owners rate their suppliers’ accountability for resolving problems as positive. Yet 47% cite difficulty holding suppliers accountable to performance promises as a top challenge.
• Data ownership is widespread, but data usability remains limited: 50% cite "no single source of truth" as a top challenge.
